The ‘happiness’ effect

Hi! Thanks for dropping by! My name is Hannah, and a couple of years ago I began building my new love… my dog training business.

I’ve worked hard and studied lots, but it was worth every second! I have the best job in the world!

One of my other joys in life is reading and writing, so hey why not mix the two…and here we are.

As I’ve got older I am learning to incorporate my loves and passions into as many areas of life as I can!

Love. Now that’s a big word! But oh do we love our dogs! We are known as an entire nation of dog lovers. Dogs are known as man’s best friend.

But why?

Dogs have the ability to lower our blood pressure and stress levels, they can even prolong our life! They have weedled their way so deeply into our lives that research now shows if you make eye contact with a dog you have a bond with, both our bodies and the dog’s release oxytocin. The love hormone! The very same hormone we get when we look at our baby!

They give us unconditional love and companionship. I see it time and time again in my job, that even a dog that has been abused or abandoned by humans, still choose to continue to love humans sometimes even the one who abused them!

They are funny, kind, loving, full of character! And boy do they give great hugs.

Yes of course they also steal our food, pull us face first on a walk, trip us up, take our fave spot on the sofa and behave in very frustrating ways at times. But what better way to repay that unconditional love they so willing give us than to take time to understand them, learn what their body language is trying to tell us, teach them and put in some effort.

Training of course is a perfect way to do that. It doesn’t need to take big chunks of your day, just a few minutes here and there can make your dog smile as much as he makes you smile. I hope you enjoyed the very first Top Dog Monologue!
